Summerset Retirement Village

Client.

Coordinated delivery across a large steel package.

The objective.

Summerset Waikanae Retirement Village forms part of a major staged retirement village development on the Kāpiti Coast, contributing to a broader community that includes independent living and aged care facilities.

The objective of this stage of the project was to support the construction of a high-quality retirement village development by delivering the structural steel package required for the build efficiently and in line with programme.

Our involvement.

Petone Engineering delivered the structural steel package for the Summerset Waikanae Retirement Village project, including the erection of steel on site.

The package comprised more than 800 assemblies, with a total steel weight exceeding 140 tonnes and protective coatings applied across more than 3,000 square metres of steel.

Delivered through a typically wet and windy Wellington winter, the project required strong coordination across fabrication, coatings, logistics and site erection to maintain programme momentum. The scale of the package, combined with the volume of assemblies and the extent of the coating scope, demanded consistent planning and disciplined execution from both the project and site teams.

The outcome.

The project was completed successfully and delivered to programme, with parts of the work tracking slightly ahead of schedule.

Petone Engineering’s work contributed to the ongoing development of Summerset Waikanae Retirement Village and demonstrated the team’s ability to deliver substantial structural steel packages efficiently and professionally, even under challenging seasonal conditions.
